An Assessment of Eucalyptus Version 1.4

With funding from Cybera, the Grid Research Centre recently conducted an investigation into version 1.4 of the open source Eucalyptus cloud computing platform. While limitations and deficiencies were found, Eucalyptus has many strengths including ease of installation and the Amazon EC2 based interface.
Furthermore, since the time of this investigation version 1.5 of Eucalyptus has been released, addressing some of the limitations/deficiencies that were found.
Also, the Eucalyptus team recently received $5.5 million dollars to form a start up (Eucalyptus Systems). With these developments Eucalyptus is well positioned as a competitor in the cloud computing market.
